Rabbits Were Never Meant to Live in a Cage
We are building a sanctuary in Southern California where every rabbit lives on open ground, digging real burrows, in a real colony, for the rest of its life. No cages. Not at intake. Not while waiting for adoption. Not ever.
Cage-free means cage-free
Most shelters were built for dogs and cats. A rabbit arrives, goes into a wire cage "temporarily," and stays there for a year. We designed the whole organization around never having to make that choice. Open ground. Soil deep enough to dig. A colony to live in. Shade in summer and a climate refuge when the heat turns dangerous.
This started with one rabbit
Blue was a Flemish Giant, and he was one of a kind. He was not a pet who lived in the corner of a room. He was part of the family. Blue's Bunny Kingdom exists because of him, and because of what we learned about how most rabbits in this country actually live.
