Adopt a Rabbit
Blue's Bunny Kingdom does not yet place rabbits directly. Rabbits listed on this site are in the care of partner shelters and rescues, and each listing links to the organization holding that rabbit. Our own adoption program opens with the sanctuary.
Right now, we point you to the right place
Every rabbit on our Rabbits in Need page belongs to a partner organization. Adopting means going to them. We publish the listing because a rabbit in one shelter's kennel is invisible to almost everyone who might want it.
What adopting a rabbit actually involves
A rabbit is a ten-year commitment to an animal that needs daily fresh greens, unlimited hay, floor space, an exotics veterinarian, and a home rabbit-proofed against its own chewing. It is closer to adopting a cat than a hamster, and further from either than most people expect.
In the largest published study of shelter rabbits, 77 percent arrived as owner surrenders, a far higher share than dogs or cats (Cook and McCobb, 2012). Almost always because the commitment turned out to be different from what someone pictured.
Our own program
When the sanctuary opens, we will place adoptable rabbits directly, with home checks and bonding support. Rabbits who cannot be placed stay with us permanently.
