Report Rabbit Abuse

# Report Rabbit Abuse

If you have seen a rabbit being hurt, neglected, or exploited, you can help by reporting it. This page explains what to report, what details help, and where reports go.

BluesBunny.org reviews every report before anything from it is shared publicly.

## If a rabbit is in immediate danger

Do not wait for us. Call your local animal control agency right away, or call 911 if an animal is in immediate danger. A report to BluesBunny does not replace an emergency report to the authorities.

## What to report

- **Cruelty or neglect** — rabbits kept without adequate food, water, shelter, space, or veterinary care, or animals being physically harmed. - **Inhumane breeding operations** — breeding setups where rabbits are kept in cruel or neglectful conditions. - **Illegal slaughter or meat sales** — rabbits slaughtered for sale without required licensing and inspection, or uninspected rabbit meat being sold. - **Fake rescues and fraud** — individuals or groups taking in rabbits under false pretenses, including nonprofits that are not what they claim to be. - **Hoarding or abandonment** — large numbers of rabbits kept in unsafe conditions, or rabbits dumped outdoors or in shelters under false stories.

Raising rabbits for meat is not itself illegal in California. What is illegal is cruelty and neglect, unlicensed and uninspected slaughter for sale, and fraud.

## What helps a report

- The date and time you saw it, and the city or neighborhood - The location, and the business, shelter, or rescue name if one is involved - What you personally saw or heard — facts, not rumors - Photos or video, taken safely and legally: do not trespass, and do not confront anyone - Ads, listings, or social media posts connected to what you saw

You do not need to have all of these. Send what you have.

## Send your report to BluesBunny

Email your report to [sarah@bluesbunny.org](mailto:sarah@bluesbunny.org) with the subject line "Rabbit abuse report." Include everything from the list above that you have — date, location, what you personally saw, and any photos or video.

Every report is reviewed before anything from it is shared publicly. Specifics stay private unless you tell us otherwise.

## What not to post publicly

Please do not post private individuals' names, home addresses, or accusations you cannot back up with what you personally observed. Unverified public accusations can harm innocent people and put this work at risk.

That is why reports here are reviewed first. Specifics — names, addresses, evidence — should be sent privately, not posted as public comments. BluesBunny will follow up on credible reports and pass verified information to journalists, shelters, and authorities where appropriate.

## Where else to report
